Chợ đêm Phú Quốc (Duong Dong Night Market)

Entrance to Phu Quoc Night Market

Dương Đông (Duong Dong) Night Market (Chợ Đêm Phú Quốc) is the main evening strolling street and a lively tourist market in the island’s very centre. It consists of a street closed to traffic and adjoining lanes filled with restaurants with seafood tanks, street-food stalls, souvenir shops and fairground entertainment.12

Opening hours and getting there

  • Opening hours: stalls begin opening towards sunset around 17:00, with lively activity and businesses operating from 18:00 to 23:00.2
  • Location: the market is in central Dương Đông (Duong Dong), near the river and bridge.2
  • Transport: from the island’s north or south, the market is easily reached on municipal VinBus buses 17 and 19, with the stop roughly 4 stops from King Kong supermarket, or by taxi or rented motorbike.12

Food and seafood

  • Restaurants with tanks: along the entire street, businesses display live seafood on ice and in tanks, including lobsters, spiny lobsters, crabs, prawns, fish, oysters and sea urchins, which they will grill on request.12
  • Chou Chou signature peanuts: the market’s main edible souvenir is sweet-glazed peanuts in dozens of flavours, from coconut to chilli, created by a local Frenchman.
  • Street food: try coconut water and fresh fruit smoothies, stir-fried ice cream rolls, Bánh xèo pancakes, skewers and chestnut flatbreads.1

What to buy (souvenirs and shopping)

  • Pearl jewellery: the market has many stalls with necklaces, bracelets and souvenirs made from local pearls.2
  • Clothing and accessories: lightweight beachwear, T-shirts, flip-flops, travel bags and suitcases.
  • Local spices: famous Phu Quoc pepper, dried seafood, tea and dried fruit.

Life hacks and tips from expats

  1. Tourist markups: the Night Market is primarily an entertainment attraction for tourists, so restaurant food prices here are higher than in ordinary places for local residents. For example, a medium lobster at the market will cost around 700,000-900,000 dong.12
  2. Alternative (daytime market): if you want fresh fruit, fish or meat without overpaying for self-catering, it is better to cross the bridge to the opposite riverbank and visit the Daytime Market (Chợ Dương Đông), open from early morning.12
  3. Bargain further inside: the further you go into the market lanes from the main entrance, the lower prices for goods and souvenirs become.2
