First time in Phu Quoc: where to stay and how to plan your trip

Choose a base to suit your trip

The centre and Dương Đông (Duong Dong) suit visitors who want to alternate town walks, markets and trips to different parts of the island. You can include Dinh Cậu (Dinh Cau) in a short day in town.

Choose the northwest if your main goals are Safari, Grand World and the northern beaches. Ông Lang (Ong Lang), Bai Dai and Ganh Dau are at different points along the coast: first check their locations on the map.

The south is convenient for a programme around An Thới (An Thoi), Sunset Town, Bãi Khem (Khem Beach) and the cable car station. Ho Quoc is a separate cultural stop on the east coast. These are the tourist areas used on our map, rather than official administrative divisions.

Consider the season, but check the actual forecast

Leave a spare day to reschedule a sea tour. Water conditions, wind and the organiser’s decision matter more than the general season label. Do not count on definitely snorkelling on a particular day.

Build an unhurried first itinerary

On arrival day, checking in and a walk near your accommodation are enough. The next day, choose a beach or cultural stop in one part of the island. Even for a full day, allow no more than two or three main places.

The cable car leaves from An Thới (An Thoi) and goes to Hòn Thơm (Hon Thom). Do not add it as a quick stop between a trip north and the beach. It is also best to set aside a separate day for Safari or a major park.

Open the planner and select your area, interests and pace. It suggests combinations of places, rather than a confirmed timetable. Remove anything unnecessary and open the day’s route in Google Maps.

Beach access and facilities have different conditions

For an initial choice, compare Khem in the south, Bãi Trường (Bai Truong) on the central west coast and Bai Dai in the northwest. Neither a rating nor an attractive photograph confirms today’s water quality.

Check the entrance to your chosen section, parking, toilet access and the price of a sun lounger. Hotel facilities may have separate rules. A map marker identifies a place, but not necessarily its vehicle entrance or pedestrian entrance.

Buy the specific service, not just a name

Before paying, check the date, adult or child ticket, height restrictions, transfers, meals and cancellation terms. Similar listings may sell different programmes.

Airport services require a separate PQC option. Fast Track, transfers and lounge access are different services. A price marked “from” or “approximately” is not the total for your group. Save your confirmation and the organiser’s contact details.

What to check before setting out

Open the specific place’s Google Maps link and check the entrance. Consult the operator for opening hours and visiting conditions. Bring water and allow for a break instead of filling every hour with stops.
